Drifting is unlike any other discipline in the world of motorsport. Winning isn’t determined by time on a clock or who reaches the finish line first, but rather by a panel of judges who select a victor based on car control, style, and speed. In the United States, the sport has surged in popularity since its introduction from Japan. Fans love the excitement of the show, out-of-the-box cars, and approachability of drivers that is a hallmark of U.S. drifting events.
Tanner Foust is one of the godfathers of American drifting, having competed in the discipline off and on since its inception. A fan favorite, Foust returns to compete in select drifting events when his Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross responsibilities allow. We caught up with him at the Seattle round late last year to get his take on the exciting world of drifting.
